ABOUT US

Our Story

Company Story By Chris Firth

From Junior Boxer To Coach

When I was a kid there were no boxing equipment shops and also none as an adult. I started boxing at 10 years old for my local amateur club as a school boy and junior boxer. In the army I was stationed in Germany which also didn't have boxing shops. As a senior I boxed for the army all over the globe. Thwarted by an injury, I had to leave the army and returned to my former boxing club in England. It was there that I was trained,  mentored and shaped into the boxing coach that you see today.

I started coaching a 2 or 3 years before opening Pro-Am; my old coach got me doing ABA coaching courses from about 1992. In the army I was coaching the dependants team of kids while recovering from injury in Germany. All while still officially boxing myself.

While living in the UK for equipment I would travel to London to buy things and return to Liverpool to sell it.  Later on, I got a job with Protech who sold martial arts gear and I started designing gear.

Training Champions

I have trained national champions at every level as a coach.

As a professional I learned from top trainers like Colin Moorcroft and Dennie Mancini, and gained great experience from top trainers like Brian Hughes, helping in the corner for world title fights with great champions. This was before training my first professional champion David Burke with whom I won the Commonwealth title and the WBU world title after defeating the legendary Collin Dunne.

Pro-Am Is Born

Pro-am Boxing was born out of these experiences; I started it from nothing by myself in 1995. Having been the sole distributor for big brands like Everlast, Grant and Reyes, I decided to craft my own unique, branded goods based on my professional experience.

Pro-am Boxing: 2002 Commonwealth Games

Our A.I.B.A. approval for amateur contest gloves and head guards led to them being used in the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth games and most national championships back then.

Champions At Pro-am Boxing

At the old Pro-am shop, you would bump into boxing champions and future champions. This included champions I trained: David Burke, Johnny Armour, Peter Culshaw, Steven Birch, Martin Murray, Gary Davis, Geard Ajetovic, and Courtney Fry. Other top champions and regulars at the shop were Robin Reid, Michael Gomez, Howard Eastman, Derry Mathews, Wayne Rigby, Ricky Hatton, Matthew Hatton and Amir Khan.

A Market Of Cheap Imitation Goods

When we started out there were very few companies supplying boxing products. Nowadays the market is flooded with cheap imitation materials. We remain committed to designing top quality products tailored to the needs of boxers.

A Message from the owner

Welcome to Pro-Am Boxing!

I’ve been a boxing trainer for 3 decades. Early on I realised that there was a lack of boxing equipment sellers in the UK. Mostly it meant travelling down to London. I soon changed that by setting up Pro-Am boxing equipment.

We cater for all of your needs whether you are a champion boxer, intermediate or amateur or just keeping fit. The biggest problem I find with much rival equipment is that the materials are imitation and poor quality. Their products soon rip leaving you with a defective product. Pro-Am is the polar opposite; our designs insist on the best quality materials to meet the needs of professional boxers. You pay extra but the value you get from long lasting goods is a no brainer.

Whether you are in boxing , I wish you the greatest success in your chosen sport. I look forward to seeing you at the shop in the near future,

Best wishes,

Chris Firth,

Pro-Am Boxing Founder
